Simulation Theater

High-Risk Birth in the Labour and Delivery Room (Simulation Theater)

Our Simulation Theatre can be adapted to mimic a variety of hospital settings including a ward room, labour and delivery room, emergency room, critical care room and many other clinical areas.

In this scenario:

We are simulating a person going through active labour that becomes a high-risk delivery. Post-birth, the baby requires emergency support (NRP – neonatal resuscitation program). Approximately 10% of all deliveries require some level of NRP support.
Having participants (nurses, respiratory therapists, doctors) work collectively as a team enhances their teamwork and decision-making abilities so they are better prepared for when this stressful occurrence happens in real life.

Behind the Scenes

Our simulation team works hard leading up, during and after all simulation activities to ensure a successful event:
Guide users in turning their ideas into tangible simulation scenarios while incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion concepts
Create and lead simulation-specific faculty development
Develop realistic materials to enhance the learner's experience
Logistics, planning and preparing all the details leading up to the event
Ensuring the event runs smoothly and safely (physically and psychologically)
Managing the technology and workflow of the simulation while following the progression of complex simulation scenarios
Giving real-time feedback during the simulation (e.g. modifying vital signs, providing sounds, seizing, blinking, pulses) to increase the realism and enhanced user experience
