Skills Lab
Refining techniques in the Skills Lab
The Skills Lab features over a dozen work stations where learners can practice various basic and advance procedures using synthetic or animal organs. It also features various virtual reality trainers for surgical and endoscopic procedures.
There are two stations featured here:
Virtual Reality goggles where the learner is participating in educational material. They can practice learned techniques with embedded artificial intelligence as a feedback tool. This environment creates a safe space where the pressure to receive feedback from another individual is removed.

Ultrasound simulator where participants can learn and practice their techniques to accurately image anatomical structures. This translates to more efficient bedside imaging which guides more precise and timely clinical decisions.

Behind the Scenes
Our simulation team works hard leading up, during and after all simulation activities to ensure a successful event:
Guide users in turning their ideas into tangible simulation scenarios while incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion concepts
Create and lead simulation-specific faculty development
Develop realistic materials to enhance the learner's experience
Logistics, planning and preparing all the details leading up to the event
Ensuring the event runs smoothly and safely (physically and psychologically)
Managing the technology and workflow of the simulation while following the progression of complex simulation scenarios
Giving real-time feedback during the simulation (e.g. modifying vital signs, providing sounds, seizing, blinking, pulses) to increase the realism and enhanced user experience
